What a Manuscript Review Is:

  • a close reading of a manuscript focused on big picture issues first (character arcs, scene building, tension, story coherence and clarity, etc), followed by secondary challenges (dialogue, sentence-level issues, verb tenses, etc)

  • your review letter will focus first on the larger issues because those take the most work to revise, followed by issues that are more likely to be helped with copyediting

I Do Not Work In

  • romance

  • erotica

  • books in any genre with heavy religious/political themes

  • books in any genre which support racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, fatphobia, and/or classism

  • poetry

  • young adult/middle grade/children

  • epic fantasy

  • “hard” science fiction

  • cozy mystery

What You Do:

  • apply to Fierce Monkey Coaching

  • I’ll get back to you and let you know if I think we’re a good fit, and if so, we’ll schedule a free 20 minute call to make sure you think so too!

  • If we move forward, I’ll invoice you, and upon receipt of payment, send you a link to schedule the submission date for your manuscript

You’ll Send Me:

  • a completed 1-page mini blueprint form (provided after payment)

  • your manuscript formatted in 12 point, double spaced, Times New Roman, 1” standard margins, Microsoft Word (.docx)

  • 3-5 craft based questions to help guide the conversation

What You Get:

  • a 30-year veteran professor, author, and book coach’s eyes and brain on your work

  • a 4-8 page narrative next steps letter addressing what’s working, what’s challenging, and how to approach revision

  • a 60-minute Zoom/phone call to follow up and talk through the feedback

  • a 15% discount on any additional coaching packages purchased within one year of the manuscript review

Timeline:

  • Manuscript reviews are returned 3-4 weeks after the submission deadline. I’ll email you with the date you can expect it once I receive it.
